Finishing treatment, or surface treatment, is a post or secondary treatment for parts for aesthetic, protective, or other purposes, usually involving one or more processes done by handwork or specific machines in prototyping and low-volume production.
At X Rapid Technologies, there are over 30 handcraft specialists to have your parts post-finished, from de-flashing to pre-fitting, including gluing, filling, sanding, modifying, painting, measuring, and assembling per your demand.
We offer finishing treatments such as painting, bead blasting, brushing, electroplating, water electroplating, nickel plating, powder coating, laser etching, silk screening, pad printing, etc. With our customized surface treatments, prototypes can look like real products. These kinds of prototypes are often called appearance prototypes, which are mainly used to test the appearance design, show in the exhibition, show them to investors, and so on. However, some surface treatments for metal parts are not for good-looking, but to form a protective layer to avoid rusting.

No matter you want your parts to be as machined or cosmetic looking, feel free to tell us your demands of finishing treatments.
X Rapid Technologies is always ready to offer you the best finishing treatment solution.
The surface treatments for plastic parts are usually de-burring, bead blasting, powder coating, painting, electroplating, silk screening, laser etching, etc. You can contact us to check if the finishing you want is available.

Sure. Surface treatments in rapid prototyping can make parts the same as the product via a steel mold.
In some cases, finishings will affect the tolerances. Take anodizing for an example. Anodizing adds a layer to the part surface, which increases the thickness, thus changing the tolerances. So it is advised to take finishings into consideration while doing engineering. Whenever you are not sure about the surface treaments, contact us for detailed information.
It depends on your purposes of rapid prototyping. If you want to verify the structure design, no extra post treatments are needed. Just leave the parts as machined. If you want to verify the appearance design, surface treatments are necessary. X Rapid Technologies will offer the proper finishing solutions per your demand.
